Somerset County Historical Society

Hey everyone, just a quick thing. I won’t shut up lately about how I’ve recently become a trustee over at the Somerset County Historical Society. This is because they have been a tremendous help to me and this site. A lot of photos and information has come from folks over there that were not obligated in anyway to help me, but did out of the kindness of their hearts. They quickly accepted me as one of their own, and there are many longtime Manville folks serving on the board over there. Anyway, to cut to the chase, the turnouts for events over there have been less than spectacular in recent months. I believe this is because more and more folks are turning to the web for making plans and learning about events in their communities, and the society isn’t exactly out there in cyberspace to connect with. SO. I set up a facebook page to keep people informed about events that are going on at the society. I’m going to try and keep up with throwing a little info on there to keep it fun, and our events are few and far between, so it wont be constantly spamming your page with crap. If that sounds like something you are interested in and you are a facebook user please visit and “like” our page HERE! Thanks so much. -Mike

  1. In one of the pictures, you said it was a home. It was the Polish National Home. I believe it was located on N. 4th or N 5th Ave. It had a large hall which was rented out for parties, wedding, etc. I believe there was also a bar downstairs.
